Gravitational Couplings of Intrinsic Spin
نویسنده
چکیده
The gravitational couplings of intrinsic spin are briefly reviewed. A consequence of the Dirac equation in the exterior gravitational field of a rotating mass is considered in detail, namely, the difference in the energy of a spin12 particle polarized vertically up and down near the surface of a rotating body is h̄Ω sin θ. Here θ is the latitude and Ω = 2GJ/(cR), where J and R are, respectively, the angular momentum and radius of the body. It seems that this relativistic quantum gravitational effect could be measurable in the foreseeable future.

Gravitational Effects of Rotating Bodies ∗
We study two type effects of gravitational field on mechanical gyroscopes (i.e. rotating extended bodies). The first depends on special relativity and equivalence principle. The second is related to the coupling (i.e. a new force) between the spins of mechanical gyroscopes, which would violate the equivalent principle. In order to give a theoretical prediction to the second we suggest a spin-sp...
متن کاملThe purely gravitational generalization of spin-rotation couplings
The nature of Mashhoon’s spin-rotation coupling is the interaction between a particle spin (gravitomagnetic moment) and a gravitomagnetic field. Here we will consider the coupling of graviton spin to the weak gravitomagnetic fields by analyzing the Lagrangian density of weak gravitational field, and hence study the purely gravitational generalization of Mashhoon’s spin-rotation couplings. PACS ...
متن کاملSpin effects in the phasing of gravitational waves from binaries on eccentric orbits
We compute here the spin-orbit and spin-spin couplings needed for an accurate computation of the phasing of gravitational waves emitted by comparable-mass binaries on eccentric orbits at the second post-Newtonian (PN) order. We use a quasi-Keplerian parametrization of the orbit free of divergencies in the zero-eccentricity limit. We find that spin-spin couplings induce a residual eccentricity f...
متن کاملTree-level unitarity constraints on the gravitational couplings of higher-spin massive fields.
We analyze the high-energy behavior of tree-level graviton Compton amplitudes for particles of mass m and arbitrary spin, concentrating on a combination of forward amplitudes that will be una8'ected by eventual cross couplings to other, higher spins. We first show that for any spin ) 2, tree-level unitarity is already violated at energies v'mMp~, rather than at the Planck scale Mp~, even for m ...
متن کاملExperimental tests of curvature couplings of Fermions in General Relativity
Spin 1 2 particles in geodesic trajectories experience no gravitational potential but they still have non-zero couplings to the curvature tensor. The effect of space time curvature on fermions can be parameterized by a vector and a pseudo-vector potential. These apparent CPT violating terms can be measured with satellite based spinpolarized torsion balance and clock comparison experiments. The ...
